Scholarship Information
Traverse Area Community Sailing's mission is to offer affordable sailing opportunities to the community. To this end, each year TACS offers scholarships to our sailors who may otherwise not be able to afford the full cost of our programs.
These scholarships are available for all of our programs (Our Adaptive Sailing Programs are offered at no cost to the participants). As a courtesy to, and as a token of our appreciation for their service, scholarships are also available to the children of the USCG Air Station Traverse City personnel.
Our scholarships cover 80% of the program fee, with families responsible for the remaining 20%, which is due as a deposit at the time of registration.
How to Apply for a Scholarship:
-
Register for a session in our registration system and select that you are interested in a scholarship.
-
Complete the scholarship application form.
-
Submit a referral and brief letter of recommendation from an adult who is not a family member—such as a teacher, counselor, coach, or other professional who knows the child well.
-
Once the application is submitted, you will receive an email with instructions for completing this step. We recommend contacting your reference directly to let them know about the request.
A TACS representative will notify the primary account contact once the scholarship decision has been made.
If a scholarship is awarded, it will be applied to the remaining balance on the account.
If a scholarship is not awarded, families may choose to:
-
Select a payment plan for the remaining balance, or
-
Cancel the registration with no penalty. In this case, the 20% deposit will be fully refunded to the original payment method.
The TACS Scholarship program is generously support by donations from the community. If you would like to help sponsor a sailor in the program, your gift would be greatly appreciated!
